Gas subsidies may cut Saudi petrochemicals' profits
2012-01-03 - AMEinfo.com | Saudi Arabia | Latest News - Saudi Arabia: NCB Capital has warned profitability of Saudi Arabia's petrochemicals companies could be reduced this year if the government increases its gas prices, The National has reported. "The ministry of petroleum and mineral resources and Saudi Aramco are jointly working towards revising the price at which natural gas is supplied to producers," said Tariq Al Alaiwat, an analyst at NCB Capital. Saudi International Petrochemical Co's profitability would be affected the most if the price of natural gas was increased, he said. "Next would be Safco [Saudi Arabian Fertiliser Co] due to its dependence on natural gas as its single feedstock. Yansab, Saudi Kayan and Petro Rabigh, which operate on mixed feed crackers using ethane, propane and butane, will not be affected, Alaiwat noted.
