IMF expects high Saudi spending in 2012
2011-12-22 - AMEinfo.com | Saudi Arabia | Latest News - Saudi Arabia: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said Saudi Arabia is expected to maintain a high level of government spending next year, but would succeed in posting another large budget surplus without needing to dip into its fiscal reserves, Reuters has reported. "Key channels would be similar to those observed in 2008 and 2009. The trade channel, via a decline in hydrocarbon exports and prices, remains the most significant, but spillovers through financial linkages are also important," said David Robinson, the IMF's mission chief for Saudi Arabia. The IMF has forecast a Saudi fiscal surplus of 9.4% of gross domestic product in 2011 and 8% in 2012. The country is expected to announce its 2012 budget next week.
