But not even the clinking cutlery at the ceremonial banquet held in Buckingham Palace could drown out the angry mutterings of Abdallah's numerous critics, who found it hard to celebrate a Saudi-British alliance fueled by controversial arms deals, gushing oil reserves and the far from successful fight against Islamic terrorism.
